Saunarium Buying Guide
What is a saunarium?
A saunarium combines the heat from a sauna with humidity from a steam generator. Essentially a more versatile form of sauna. Sauna + mini steam generator.
Most of our domestic saunas can be ordered as saunariums and will be supplied with an additional mini steam generator plus special non toxic coating for the timber to be protected from the additional moisture.
The mini steam generator is manually filled and does not create sufficient steam to require a drain inside the sauna.
Oceanic aromas can be used with our mini steam generators.
Floor standing Apollo beaters can be purchased with combined steam units attached.
Wall mounted heaters can be purchased with a serparate mini steam generator to be mounted separately on the wall of the sauna.
Finnish Saunariums
For our Finnish saunas, the addition of a steam generator requires a control system to limit the temperature depending upon the humidity level. This is because humid air conducts heat more effectively than dry air, so it would be uncomfortable to have a humid environment above 65°C.In our Finnish Saunariums, the control system allows the bather to choose between four different climates:
Tepidarium

High humidity + mild temperature: 60% maximum humidity at 48°C maximum temperature.
Saunarium

Mid humidity + mid temperature: 50% maximum humidity at 48–56°C.
Caldarium

Low humidity + mid/high temperature: 40% maximum humidity at 56–65°C.
Sauna
-
Dry heat only: Up to 110°C with minimal or no humidity.
Saunas Heaters with steam units
There are two types of mini steam generators available for Finnish style saunas:
Wall heater plus separate wall hung mini steam generator
Apollo floor standing heater plus Apollo modular steam unit (attaches directly to the heater)
Not all models of domestic Finnish sauna have sufficient space for both sauna heater and mini steam generator or for the Apollo heater.
Our outdoor Finnish saunas can also be specified as saunariums.
Our saunarium systems can be ordered separately if you are planning to build a bespoke sauna.
Our saunarium systems can be controlled via either our standard touch button keypad, the OSX touchscreen keypad or wireless control system.
Infrared Saunariums
Dometic infrared models can be ordered with the mini steam generator as an optional extra. The wall hung steam unit is supplied as a standalone system, plugged directly into a 13amp socket and controlled from the front of the unit. There is the option to have the heater and steam unit controlled via our Touchscreen OSX system if preferred but the steam unit will still require it’s own 13amp supply.
The addition of a steam unit into the infrared sauna allows bather to incorporate aromatherapy into what would otherwise be a completely dry sauna. The cooler air temperature inherent within infrared saunas makes incorporating the mini steam unit safe without additional controls.
All domestic infrared models except the 1 person IR1020 can be supplied as saunariums. This includes our outdoor range and also our bespoke kits.
